Radiolabelled preparations of somatostatin analogues are selectively bound to tissues and organs that possess somatostatin receptors and have been used to image metastases from neuroendocrine tumours (Fig. 1.21). Somatostatin receptors are also expressed in several types of immunocompetent cells where they modulate immune function; radiolabelled octreotide has been used to outline and stage several forms of lymphoma.
